Transforming Your School Into an Island of Sanity:
A Practicum

This three month practicum develops the commitment, competencies, and skillful means to undertake the hard and meaningful work of creating an Island of Sanity within your school. Two different types of skills are required: organizational and personal.  If we are to transform our schools, we also must develop personal confidence and clarity. The sessions will focus on both the personal and organizational skills and practices required for this transformation. Meg will teach live every other session, offering perspectives and practices for developing the school; Julie will lead alternate sessions to explore your experience with these organizational practices. She will also teach practices for individual development.

We encourage you to come as a school team that will learn the practices for creating an Island of Sanity. The final module on creating future possibilities will give your team the opportunity to plan for school-wide implementation. Tuition for the school leader covers your team’s participation. You can invite as many interested people from your school to your team as are eager.

Training occurs in a series of bi-weekly live Zoom sessions from February 27th- May 21st. You do not have to attend live, but you do need to commit to doing the practices and experimenting with them in your school. These practices succeed in creating the conditions for people to contribute their generosity, creativity, and kindness. Personal practices succeed in giving you, as a sane leader, the skills needed to see clearly so that you can act wisely.

Text materials: All practices are from Restoring Sanity: Practices to Awaken Generosity, Creativity, and Kindness in Ourselves and Our Organizations
