AAIE’S LEADERSHIP MASTERMINDS COHORTS

Now More Than Ever, We Need One Another

If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that leaders working in isolation are especially hard pressed to see the future and equally challenged to chart a path forward. And as the challenges we face as individuals and institutions continue to mount, it’s become clear how much we need to be connected to one another in conversation and community.

Over the past two years, AAIE sponsored Mastermind groups have offered dozens of international school leaders a safe, trusted, provocative space for honest discussions around personal and professional topics of their choosing. In monthly virtual meetings, we’ve shared problems, designed solutions, and offered support to one another in ways that energize and grow capacity to lead into the future.

AAIE Masterminds builds on protocols used in similar leadership groups used in many other professional settings. Each month, one participant takes the “hotseat” to introduce a question or dilemma for feedback from the group. We also reserve time in each hourly session for open discussion of pressing questions, advice, and shared wins. In other words, participants drive all of our conversations.

Reflections from prior Mastermind participants

Josh Garrett Director of QSI International School of Skopje

"I have loved my Mastermind cohort experiences. These conversations with school leaders throughout the world are a highlight of my month. The depth of collective wisdom and hard-won experiences causes me to walk away from each meeting more reflective about how I want to lead. Through the relationships formed, a true professional learning community emerges, and we get to the heart of the matters that perplex and trouble us. With my fellow school leaders chiming in on my dilemmas, I have used their comments to impact my school for the better. Homa and Will are masters at provoking deeper thinking and guiding our conversation to create positive school change

Kevin Fullbrook Director, Al-Bayan Bilingual School, Kuwait

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time as part of the Mastermind cohort.  The monthly discussions with other leaders around the world were an incredibly valuable forum to discuss, reflect, and challenge my thinking alongside others who were going through similar challenges.”

Bonetta Ramsey, Director, Lincoln School, Kathmandu, Nepal

“It has been such a pleasure to be a part of the AAIE Masterminds cohort during the 2020-2021 school year. Thanks to Will and Homa for providing a platform for professional support, collaboration and empathy during this unprecedented time. During a time like no other in education around the world, to be able to come together in a safe, non-judgmental place and be your authentic self was deeply meaningful and fulfilling to me and the other members of the cohort. The balanced leadership, guidance and facilitation that Will and Homa provided was crucial to the success of our cohort and I cannot thank them and AAIE enough for this opportunity.
