Foundations of Coaching: Designing Your School’s Program

A Collaborative Cohort for Senior Leaders
 

 

 

Building an instructional coaching program in an international school isn't a plug-and-play process.
The context is specific;

  • high staff turnover,

  • multi-cultural teams,

  • varying accreditation frameworks,

  • and leaders who are often managing teams and sometimes various campuses.

The challenges are real, and the solutions need to match.

This cohort is designed for school teams, not individual participants. Each participating school sends a team, with senior leadership present and committed across all four sessions. That consistency matters. Real change in how a school builds and sustains a coaching culture doesn't happen through one person attending a workshop. It happens when the people with the authority and vision to shift practice are in the room together, doing the work together.

Teams will draw from AAICIS resources and current research from leading voices in the field, working through the key hurdles that international schools face when planning, implementing and sustaining instructional coaching programs. How to make the case for it. How to structure it for your context. How to keep it from stalling when the inevitable obstacles appear.

Across four virtual sessions beginning in September, schools from multiple regions will come together in a genuine learning community where the diversity of experience is a feature, not a complication. Your team will leave each session with something actionable, and with a network of peers who understand exactly what you're navigating.

This cohort is open only to AAIE member schools. Spots are limited.

Details

  • School leaders participating in these cohorts will come together as a collaborative learning community to understand how to thoughtfully and effectively implement coaching practices within their schools. 
  • Through guided conversations, shared experiences, and practical learning opportunities, participants will explore the structures, mindsets, and leadership approaches necessary to build a healthy coaching culture that supports growth for both educators and students. Recognizing that introducing coaching within schools can be complex and challenging, the cohorts will provide intentional space for leaders to ask questions, examine real-world challenges, and seek guidance from facilitators and peers navigating similar work. 
  • The cohort model is designed to move beyond theory, creating opportunities for reflective dialogue, problem-solving, and ongoing support as leaders work through implementation in their own unique school contexts. 
  • These learning communities will foster connection, collective wisdom, and leadership capacity, helping school leaders feel more confident and supported as they take on the important work of building sustainable coaching practices within their schools.

TOPIC FOUR

Quality Assurance and Sustainability Plan (Building Systems)

  • What systems and infrastructure pieces need to be in place to support coaching?
    • Role understanding by leadership to protect the plan
    • Clarity in how a person in the role might work (understanding gaps in calendar/schedule don’t me nothing is happening)
    • Job descriptions & scheduling of coaches ( look at principles of practice
    • Structures for coaching to happen during the school day (PLCs, off time table)
    • Coaches visibility in professional learning, faculty development time, part of the curriculum/teaching and learning team
  • What do leaders need to consider?
