AAIE LEADERSHIP LEARNING SERIES:
FUTURE FORESIGHT
Join “The Future of Family Engagement,” a Future Foresight Challenge-Based Cohort by AAIE
As AI shifts from tool to companion, family expectations are changing faster than school norms.
This cohort helps school leaders stay ahead of that shift, and leave with a concrete artifact they can use to guide parent and caregiver conversations with confidence.
This is for leaders - and the counselor who is working with the leader to look at the changes coming.
Why does this matter now?
In moments like this, families look—explicitly or implicitly—to school leadership for orientation.
The opportunity to be prepared means we must face strange new questions as a school leadership community.
Questions like:
- What does it mean when children form emotional attachments to AI systems?
- Where does media literacy help parents pull messages about Companion AI apart?
- Who helps families separate credible developmental concerns from cultural anxiety?

Led by Tricia Friedman, Director of Learning and Strategy at Shifting Schools

What is already changing?
AI is crossing a quiet but consequential threshold:
- From instrumental (helps accomplish tasks)
- To relational (listens, remembers, comforts, accompanies)
This shift reshapes how families think about:
- Trust and authority
- Emotional development
- Friendship and care
Strong leaders seek opportunities to meet the changing times with informed research.
What this Future Foresight Challenge does:
Across three 35-minute, focused sessions, leaders will:
-
Scan early signals around companion AI, grief bots, and emotionally responsive systems
-
Distinguish plausible futures from exaggerated narratives
- Clarify the role schools can play in helping families make sense of these developments
By the end of the cohort, every participant will have created a tangible leadership artifact—such as:
- A parent-facing framing or letter
- A conversation guide for caregiver meetings
- A contextually relevant plan for your school’s professional development
A New Year community initiative: bring a peer into the fold.
To strengthen leadership alignment, every registration includes a second seat at no additional cost.
- 1 ticket = 2 seats
- Ideal for a Head and senior leader, or trusted leadership peers
This reflects a powerful belief: the most credible leaders don’t think alone.
Together, we will build something you can actually use, not just think about.

Who is this cohort for?

-
Heads of School
-
Senior leaders responsible for family engagement, culture, or strategy
This is especially relevant if:

-
Families are already raising questions about AI and childhood
-
You sense uncertainty forming beneath polite conversations
-
You want to lead with clarity rather than reassurance alone
A question worth sitting with…
When families are trying to understand trust, attachment, and care in an AI-infused world; will your school be reacting to their questions, or directly shaping the conversation?
This cohort is designed for leaders who prefer the latter.
