For February 18, 2020 Tracking Cumulative Global Infections, Every Other Day Not to be alarmed, the sudden spike in reported cases is because the WHO reporting protocol has changed. As of February 17, 2020, WHO will be reporting all confirmed cases, including both laboratory-confirmed and those reported as clinically diagnosed. The updated manner of reporting by the WHO now places reported cases in more agreement with the Johns Hopkins CSSE tracking. Johns Hopkins is reporting 75,161cases.
Reporting of new cases (plotted daily) on the tracking chart below is also impacted by the change in WHO protocol.
No new countries are reporting cases of the virus in the past 24 hours.
