A 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) UPDATE #11
For February 16, 2020 Tracking Cumulative Global Infections, Every Other Day Egypt has reported a single case of COVID-19, the first on the African continent.
Johns Hopkins CSSE indicates 71,230 cases as of today vs. WHO which reports "51,857 Laboratory-Confirmed cases." Fewer new cases are reported by WHO in the past two days.
687 laboratory-confirmed cases are being reported by the WHO outside China.
Readings for Today
Of interest is the speech by the WHO Director-General at the Munich Security Conference. Speaking of health and security being forever related he said, "The emergence of a pathogen with pandemic potential, moving rapidly from country to country and requiring an immediate and large-scale response in countries"... remains the current security issue. He said that the current concern is a China issue, then stated, "Let me be clear: it is impossible to predict which direction this epidemic will take."
Again, we are providing both the WHO and Johns Hopkins situation reports.
We are repeating the STAT-news article, where disease statistical modelers discuss the ability of scientists to predict the severity of virus infection rates.
