HEADNET RESPONSES TO USE OF SOFTWARE FOR SCHDULING

Dear Peter:

We use a product from Rediker Software called Admin Plus.  It has several components including student scheduling.  We are very happy with it.  The company provides very good technical support and back up.  If you need contact information to reach the company, just let me know.  The Admin Plus program is a comprehensive school package.     I hope this helps.  Have a good day.      Regards,

Ray Marshall

Peter,

Rediker software is excellent. We just bought their programs. If you want more info, contact Cynthia@rediker.com  "Winthrop W. Sargent"

 Peter,

We use Blackbaud as our schoolwide software - includes the business office.  The scheduling portion works, but does take some manual adjustments. Harlan Harlan Lyso    Dear Peter,  I have used both Admin+ (Rediker Software e-mail: Rich@rediker.com) andSASIxp for middle school and high school scheduling.  Admin+ has given me the best service and has the most knowledgeable staff.  I do not know of a program that is useful for elementary scheduling, but Admin+ let's you usethe grading program throughout the school while using the scheduling program for the upper grades.  It can be run as a stand alone or on a network.  Hope this helps,

Peter I have used MAcSchool and found it to be excellent in building a master schedule. It is very flexible and can accommodate a wide variety of timetables.

Peter, We just purchased Administrator + software last Spring. Didn't use it for scheduling this last time because we'd finished by the time the software arrived but we will try it this year. The rest of the program (report cards, attendance, etc.) promises good things and we have found it to be good once we got over the initial start-up glitches. Good luck,

Dear Peter: There are expensive and high-end programs such as MacSchool which are difficult to learn and use but they do a splendid job. We bought a program called Administrator's Plus put out by Rediker, whichdoes the job for far less money.  It also has more constraints but does an adequate job of scheduling, report cards, attendance, etc. Their email is sales@rediker.com.  Their web page is www.rediker.com  Hope this helps.

Peter:

We use Administrator's Plus software, which includes a scheduling module. While not perfect, we are reasonably satisfied with it.

Dear Peter:

I am familiar with Mac (or Win) School and Administration Plus (Raedeker Inc), both of which have Mac and PC versions.  They are quite useful in keeping track of schedules, students∂ grades, attendance and many other administrative matters.  However, the actual scheduling process still requires a great deal of ∂handwork∂ if you want your schedule to be driven by students∂ needs.  This is particularly true when you have a large number electives or single section classes. As far as I know, in spite of vendor∂s claims, there is no magic button for scheduling.  You can get faster conflict checks for different schemes and so can try to optimize without undue time expenditure.

Good luck.

Todd –

Habari and Greetings from the Caribbean.  My immediate reaction to your situation is that you need to get your schedules in line with one another.  We had a similar situation last year due to our school being spread out over three sites. We moved last May into one building and then introduced a block schedule this academic year.  It has been heaven and what a difference for everyone involved.  We have 250 students from Pre-K - Grade12 and quite honestly we do not need a complex software package because we can utilize a simple data base and spread sheet to cover all our needs. Good luck!

Peter:

Assuming you have shared staff between the 6 day cycle and 5 day cycle, probably some part time teachers, or some with restricted hours available only mornings, etc., and 330 students, I don't think a computer will help. You will have to insert so many scheduling limits(parameters) that you will do a far better job by hand. Sorry!  As we say in Turkey, Kolay Gelsin (may the work come easily) Once upon a time, I hand scheduled flexible modular scheduling with 1, 2 and 3 period classes, 6 day cycle, shared teachers with a 5 day cycle elementary school. and parameters mentioned above one semester. The second semester I used a very powerful computer consultant and program. My hand work was better and the teachers told me so. That was the only good thing they said about my work in that school.
