Class Size Limits

Thanks to all my colleagues who sent me
information on student-teacher
ratio / class size. The only standardized benchmark I found
outlined
by the NAESP (National Association of
Elementary School Principals),
which lists the following information:
-
Student-teacher ratio for elementary school as a whole not to exceed
an average ratio of 20-1.
-
NAESP gives the following recommended student-teacher ratios per
grade:
1-8 for Preschool 1 (three-year olds)
1-10 for Preschool 2 (four-year olds)
1-10 for Kindergarten (five-year olds)
1-15 for Grade 1
1-15 for Grade 2
1-20 for Grade 3
1-20 for Grade 4
1-20 for Grade 5
1-20 for Grade 6
I hope this information is helpful to
you. I still have not received
or found anything on student-teacher
ratio / class size for grades 7
through 12, but I am still looking. For the Middle and
think it will probably be a combination of
teacher load and a maximum
student-teacher contacts rather than strictly class
size.
