Dear Members:

A few weeks ago, I put out a request for assistance regarding Nurses'

salaries.  This was a first for me and not knowing if this was an

appropriate protocol, I also sent it out on Headnet as well.  Since then,

there has been some discussion on the use of this listserve.  I apologize

to anyone who felt offended or was overwhelmed with emails.  I will use the

academy only from now on unless there is a paucity of responses.

The excel attachment gives you the data by county that was received.  Out

of 31 responses, there were two without nurses, 16 that treated the nurse

as a teacher in terms of degrees and experience and a similar amount used

the teacher substitute rate as a guide for nurse substitution.  2-3 other

schools used the senior support staff salary scale as well.  After that

there is a plethora of responses that are individual in nature.  At AIS

Israel, we used to use the senior administrative support salary scale but

will probably move to the Teacher's salary scale in the future.

I thank all of you that provided the information and will send this out on Headnet as well for the responses came from both sources.  In the future, I will use only one listserve.

Again, thanks for your inputs and I wish you all the best during this

holiday season.  Take a rest for I am certain you all need it........I do.

Subject: Nurse's salary

I need to know your collective thoughts on two questions:

1.  What is the annual salary or salary range of your school nurse?

2. What do you pay a substitute nurse as a daily rate.

From: "Dr. Dan McClain" <ciplcmcclain@telcel.net.ve>

At CIPLC we have the Nurses on the Certified staff schedule (Same as the teachers). A substitute nurse is paid the same as a substitute teacher.

Dear Bob,

We use a highly qualified local nurse - Turkish - who is at school all day.  A bilingual doctor comes four mornings and is on call within five minutes of school.  The salary of the nurse is in Turkish Lira and would translate4 into around $6,500.00  annual due to the large devaluation of the Turkish Lira last spring.

Sorry, no substitute nurse as the doctor covers.   Best,  George Damon

From: Ned Sherrill <esherrill@stjohns.edu.gu>

We go with a part-time nurse from 9AM - 1:30PM.  This covers all breaks when children are on the play fields.  Rate is $12/hr plus benefits.  I honestly don't know how I get away with this!  When this person decides to move on it will be harder to find a replacement at this rate.  Have you seen NAIS stats?

Hope this helps,  Ned

From: "Bill Powell" <bill_powell@iskl.edu.my>

The nurses at ISKL are on a senior support staff salary, same as a senior secretary.

Bob, I pay my nurse a local support salary.  That's about $2.50 an hour.

Cheers,   George Lumm, Estonia

Bob,  Our nurse is full time and earns the same as a starting teacher.

Substitutes earn sub teacher pay.

Dear Bob,

Greetings from Muscat.  Concerning the nurse's pay:  We pay 80% of the BA

column on our teacher salary schedule (this would be the same as an intern

scale in some schools...as we have this column for people without teaching

credentials.  For example this year our nurse receives $21,000 for the year.

A subsitute receives $8 an hour.
