Hello, Friends,

Again I thank you for your responses to a question from my corner of the

sandbox, this time re: whether or not you have an internal auditor, and if

yes, to whom the individual reports.

Thirty of you responded, twenty-five of whom do not have an internal

auditor, five of whom do. The overwhelming message is that this position can

be very political and should be avoided, the exception being one school

which has a system which appears healthy and another which would like to

have an internal auditor. Two schools report that it was the community

rather than the head of school or the Board which set up the requirement for

an internal auditor, which lends credence to the political piece.

Re: the second portion of the question, should such a position exist, the

strong consensus is that s/he should report to the head of school, possibly

together with the Treasurer of the Board. The person should definitely not

report to the Business Manager.

Hmm. Aren1t our jobs fun?

With every wish for a lovely holiday season,  Monica
