Many thanks to the more than 64 colleagues who responded to my questions on

Admission or Entrance Fee.

All but two of the schools who responded charge an admission fee.  This fee

ranges from $200 to $10.000 USD.  This fee is almost always used for Capital

Development as opposed to Operations and  93% of those who responded said

this fee is non-refundable. Some of the schools with the highest admission

fees have a policy to refund part of this fee if the family in question

leaves after one or two years. Several indicated that if a family leaves

after one year 50% of the admissions fee is refunded.  There was general

agreement that it is preferable to have a policy on refunding a part of this

fee if a family leaves after one or two years as opposed to giving discounts

to families that indicate, at the time of application, they will be staying

only one or two years.
