Dear Colleagues,

Recently I asked schools to let me know if they have liability insurance for their Board and Director and I have 12 responses. Eight schools, including ACS Tunis, have no coverage. Four school have coverage and of the three that gave the limit of coverage it was either 1 million or 1.5 million dollars.

The most common comment of the schools was that lawsuits are very uncommon, unlikely, or simply not perceived to be a risk worth spending money protecting against. The schools that answered with no insurance were in Europe (3), Latin America (2), South Asia (1), and Africa (2). The schools that have insurance are located in Europe (1), Latin American (1), South Asia (1),  and Africa (1).

Thanks to all for the guidance. I can't really say if the sample is large enough to draw a valid conclusion, but I also am of the opinion that the risk is low in Tunisia of lawsuits brought locally. The bigger uncertainty is whether they might be brought against the school or its directors in the United States.

Regards to all.  Bob Thompson
