Structures (May, 1999)
Some notes: What ever happened
to that survey I answered in May on administrative structures? Well, here is!!
One respondent asked how
I was going to compile all this info with so many variables. The answer is " I do not know, but here is my best shot at it."
Several respondents said
that EBV (#1 on list) (my school) sounded about right, so maybe you can use us
as a Benchmark.
A good comment by Jim Ambroseit depends on whether the school is a "young
school or a mature school" with programs in place.
Pilar Ponce of Quito referred
to an ASCD recent publication on the subject of school structures and support
personnel. Take a look at that issue.
One Director said she
had too many administrators, but no one wanted to volunteer to give up their
job.
Brian McCauley referred
to a publication by Educational Research Services ( or
something similar) that did a study on school administrative support and how it
compares to industry. Check it out on Internet!
Doug Osbo
notes that "our public" is demanding more and more from us and that
the way to accommodate this is by adding staff. Our jobs are "labor
intensive".
Final note: This is by
no means a formal analysis and was not intended to be so. I heard from 25
Directors; two gave excellent comments but no statistics. Please let me know if
something is not clear or if I can elaborate on any items.
